Well it’s a new year and we’re off and running! Our original play, “Down In the Bayou,” has been cast! Our cast is made up of ALL the Kindergarten, First, Second, Third, and Fourth Graders!
Our story is set down in the bayou of Louisiana. Florence loses Alfred, her pet alligator, when he leans too far over a waterfall and falls right down. Alfred dreams of playing in a dixieland band and he adventures through the swamp to find one. Flo goes on a journey to find him and both characters meet all sorts of bizarre friends along the way. Our play will be filled with Dixieland music and a giant parade!
We’ll be having after school rehearsals here and there, and towards the date of our play, MARCH 13TH, we’ll stay after school more frequently.
I’ll be looking for parents volunteers to join us after school during rehearsals, and of course we will needs lots of help with costumes, sets, and props!
Stay tuned for more info, in the meantime, here is a video to give you a taste of our audition process in the third and fourth grades.
First we read the script in both classes to get an idea of the characters.
Then we placed name cards for our top three choices under the character names. If there were a lot of people under one character, we tried to put our name under a different character.
Then we read scenes for our favorite character.
And lastly, some of us had singing auditions for characters that sing solos in the show.
Everyone did a phenomenal job and made my job as director SO HARD when I was casting, but because each actor is so talented and brings so much energy to their part, I know we’re going to have an amazing show. I was so proud of their auditions!
